Description: Join our team as we prepare to compete in the Minnesota Science Olympiad Middle School Competitions. The Science Olympiad is run like a track meet where teammates will each compete in a few of the science or engineering events with another team member. The events are a mix of 20 challenges—

  • some involve hands-on building (think hovercrafts or Rube Goldberg energy-transfer machines),
  • others are knowledge-based (like anatomy, geology, or genetics),
  • and some focus on a specific skill that is demonstrated in a lab setting;
  • the rest are a mix of these).
  • (Full list of this year’s events: Division B -Middle School, Division C High School)
  • 2027 Rulebook here: https://www.soinc.org/rules-2027
 During our Tuesday meetings, we will plan which teammates will compete in each of the events, connect students with resources to prepare for their events, and help foster a love of science! Coaches will help students prepare for the competition but family support is strongly encouraged during the preparation months. We will host a parent/guardian meeting via Zoom after the first meeting. Every student must have a parent/guardian on site for the regional competition on 2/6 @ Mounds View High and state competition 2/27 at Bethel University for supervision and to help run our school’s assigned event. Check out the club website here.
