504 Plans

Under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, public schools are required to offer accommodations for eligible students with disabilities.  Nova Classical Academy provides students with disabilities the support they need through a 504 plan.

What are 504 services?

A 504 plan is a formal plan that a school develops to provide students with disabilities the support they need. A 504 plan covers any condition that limits daily activities in a major way.

Who can Receive 504 services?

In order to receive services for a 504 plan, schools will look at information from a few different sources. One source might be a medical diagnosis. Families can request a 504 plan through the 504 coordinators. The request must be in writing. The school will then hold a meeting to decide if the child qualifies and what supports are appropriate.

Reading & Math Support funded through ADSIS

Math180, PRESS, and Read180 are Math and Reading intervention programs at Nova Classical Academy to support students who are identified as being below grade-level in reading, math, or both. Funding for these support programs is through ADSIS – an initiative from the MN Department of Education. The purpose of ADSIS is to provide instruction to assist students who need additional academic or behavioral support to succeed in the general education environment. The goal is to reduce the number of inappropriate referrals to special education by providing proactive instructional supports early to struggling students.

Families who choose to opt-out of Math180, PRESS, and/or Read180 will need to complete the Nova Classical Academy curricular opt-out form (NP-502) and return to Dr. Johnson at mjohnson@novaclassical.org. Nova Classical Academy considers these supports to be integral to your student’s schedule so that they are able to fully access the richness of Nova Classical’s liberal arts curriculum.
