Field Trips, Educational Travel & Volunteer Opportunities

Nova students participate in a number of exciting outings throughout their education. We take field trips throughout the year, and offer educational travel opportunities for students at the end of their 8th Grade year and in high school.

In addition to field trips and travel, students also expand their world views through volunteering. Volunteering is an important part of the student experience, and are included as part of graduation requirements as well.

Educational Travel

Nova Classical Academy partners with EF Tours to provide our educational travel experiences. Each tour itinerary is prepared guided by an experienced Tour Director, allowing our students and chaperones to more fully focus on appreciating the sites, sounds, and experiences of the locations they are visiting.

Washington D.C.

After the conclusion of students’ 8th grade year and completion of the Logic stage of learning, students are provided the opportunity to tour Washington D.C. The itinerary includes a tour of the Capitol, observing the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and tour of Arlington National Cemetery, viewing amazing exhibits at the Smithsonian Museums, walking the paths of the Washington Monuments, visiting the sites of the Battle of Gettysburg, as well as a tour of Mount Vernon, the home of our first president. Students will travel D.C. primarily on foot and develop their inter-city cultural awareness while experiencing hallmarks of our nation’s history.

Capstone

Nova’s Classical curriculum is built upon a historical framework founded in Western civilization. The Capstone experience enriches student’s understanding of ancient civilizations while providing them opportunity to comprehend, recall, analyze and apply lessons learned by personal experience. Tours to historical sites and cities which they have studied allow students to see, feel, and understand specific events in context. This is essential, practical knowledge which books alone cannot provide.
