Nova Classical Academy Uniform Policy

The purpose of the uniform policy is twofold. First it is functional: to focus students' attention on their work at school rather than their attire, and to present a school community which is proper and neat in appearance, reflecting the important nature of our enterprise. Second it is philosophical: serving as a tool of character development (i.e., developing a sense of simplicity, dignity, modesty; understanding principles and how rules are connected to principles; making prudent decisions, etc.).

To these ends, it is not the intention of the Board of Directors or the administration to spend time adjudicating nuanced interpretations of this policy. Attempts to circumvent or to "push the envelope" on the uniform simply wastes important instructional and administrative time on matters that are both trivial and unrelated to learning.

Enforcing dress is not the sole responsibility of the school. If a student comes to school inappropriately dressed the parents will be notified, and disciplinary action as laid out in the Nova Code of Conduct will apply.

General: Uniforms should be neat, clean and in good repair. All clothing must be properly sized (not baggy or tight) and shirts must be tucked in at all times unless they have a banded bottom. If pants and shorts have belt loops, belts must be worn for 3rd grade and up. There should be no brand identifiers (e.g., Nike, swoosh, Fubu) on any items except gym shoes.

Nova Classical Academy has selected Dennis Uniform Manufacturing Company as our official uniform supplier. To ensure proper styles and color matches, no other vendors are allowed. Dennis offers the highest quality, comfort, service and styles that best support the purpose of uniforms at Nova.

Dennis will come to our school and sell Nova's uniform items at our annual Uniform Sale, generally held in early August. You may also purchase items at their retail store, through telephone orders, or online at their web site:

680 Hale Avenue North, Suite 130
Oakdale, MN 55128

Any time a need arises, families may request assistance with obtaining uniform items via the Uniform Fund. All students are eligible. Contact the school office or www.novaclassical.org for a form.
