Students and Teachers Are Recipients of Generosity
The Nova community has been generous and consequently, should know how such kindness has benefited the school. Two community activities over the past years have enriched your child’s education.
The past two school years (2005-06 and 2006-07) the generosity of our parent community has contributed to many enhancements to Nova’s educational program. The Community Auction in 2005-06 raised a net amount of $14,397. Auction funds that year were dedicated to the science program. If you recall, the summer of 2005 the lower hallway was renovated for classrooms, including the science laboratory. The dollars raised paid for science textbooks, science curriculum supplies, science kits, lab equipment and supplies, and a safety cabinet. What a boost this has been for teachers and students to have new resources to augment the teaching and learning of science.
Last year’s Community Auction, Exploring the Art of Learning raised a net amount of $16,400 to fund the art and music programs. These funds will be used this school year to bring art and music opportunities, like an artist in residence program, to our classrooms and students. What a wonderful way this has been to supplement the learning of art and music for your child.
The 2006-07 school year was the first time that Nova Classical Academy reached out to the parent community with an annual appeal. One purpose of the appeal was to raise additional funds to focus on training faculty in the classical model and strengthening programs and activities to benefit your child’s education. It was a very successful initial appeal, surpassing the goal and raising $20,670 for students and teachers.
During the spring of 2007 the sum of $11,000 went for Singapore math training for teachers, Singapore math textbooks and classical education training for the faculty. The remaining dollars from the annual appeal funded The Writing Road to Reading training this past August with the kindergarten through fourth grade teachers. This training of faculty, so essential to the education of your child, has been possible because of parents’ financial contributions.
In the relatively brief history as a school, students and teachers have been the recipients of parents’ generosity through the Community Auction and annual appeal. The Nova community owes a depth of gratitude to parents for their thoughtful kindness in support of classical education.
Thank you.
