The Nova Development Committee

Mission

The Nova Development Committee will build community support to provide the extra margin of excellence for Nova’s students to experience not just a good, but a great, classical education.

Responsibilities

The Development Committee is responsible for overseeing the planning and administration of philanthropic fundraising activities pursued on behalf of Nova Classical Academy.

This committee will:

  • Plan and administer an annual fundraising appeal;
  • Oversee the administration of a community auction in cooperation with the Nova Parent Teacher Organization;
  • Plan and administer grant writing activities;
  • Administer project-specific major gift and capital campaigns; and
  • Review all proposals for fundraising activities to be approved by the Board of Directors.

2007-2008 Goals

  • Raise $50,000 in 2007-2008 school year
  • Document the annual appeal process
  • Define a robust case of support
  • Implement donor database software
  • Expand contacts in database beyond parent community
  • Make 3-5 contacts with foundations
  • In partnership with Facilities and Finance, articulate development need for high school expansion and begin implementing

Committee Membership

This committee requires skills and expertise in the following areas:

  • Non-profit development experience
  • Grant research and writing skills
  • Technical skills in database management
  • Strategic planning skills
  • Community connections with philanthropic prospects (foundations, corporations and/or individuals)
  • Passion for advancing Nova’s mission

Meetings

The Development Committee meets the first Saturday of every month at 8:15 am. The meeting room is on the second floor of Nova Classical Academy.
