The Nova Accountability Committee

Mission

The Nova Accountability Committee is a board committee established to evaluate Nova’s progress and to develop ways that Nova can continue to improve. It also focuses on involving the Nova community in this continuous improvement, both for assistance and feedback.

Responsibilities

The Accountability Committee looks at what Nova is doing relative to its mission and goals; looking at what is working and where there is room to grow, citing evidence of these and then making commendations and recommendations.

This committee will also:

• Assist the Head of School with the development and monitoring of yearly Academic and Non-Academic Goals.
• Assist the Head of School, Business Manager, and Board of Directors with collecting and reporting various pieces of information as required by the state of Minnesota and Nova’s sponsor.
• Develop a School Improvement Plan that includes short and long term goals and an evaluation piece so that it is empirically clear when those goals have been met.

Additionally, this committee wWill write, send out, and evaluate the results of a parent survey and make decisions based on the results. (Frequency not yet determined.)

2007-2008 Goals

• Set the Academic and Non-Academic Goals for 2007-2008.
• Finish the development of a Master Plan for state and sponsor mandated reporting.
• Develop a School Improvement Plan based on the Site Team Visit Report, the Self-Study Report, the Parent Survey, and the UST Survey.

Work Products

• Master Plan as to what information is required by whom, when
• School Improvement Plan
• Parent survey (on a yearly basis?)

Committee Membership

This committee requires skills and expertise in the following areas:

• Experience with data collection and analysis
• Knowledge of sponsor and state requirements
• People who are detail oriented

Meetings

The Accountability Committee meets on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. We meet from 7 – 8 am in room 206 (Ms. Lund’s room).
