Why I choose to work at Nova

I had the opportunity to substitute teach at Nova several times last year. From the moment I stepped into the building, I could tell there was something very unique about the Nova community. The students were polite, hard-working, and self-disciplined. The staff, parents, and volunteers were helpful and generous. Everyone was working together to reach a common goal. As I learned more about Nova’s vision of developing students’ minds as well as their characters, I knew I wanted to be a part of this vibrant community of learners. Now that I am a teacher at Nova, I am so excited to help train students to become intelligent, curious, caring adults who strive to live fulfilling, meaningful lives.

Hobbies/Interests

I enjoy reading, writing/reflecting, traveling, shopping, cooking (or watching my husband cook!), making collages, being creative, camping, and going for nice, long walks.

Family

I have a wonderful husband of five years who is from British Columbia, Canada. I have two humorous brothers who live in Minneapolis and my loving parents live in Woodbury, which is where I grew up.

Favorite author/thinker/historical figure (and why)

I don’t think I can pick just one favorite thinker! Galileo, Gandhi, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Confucius, and Jesus are a few that come to mind. All were brave, wise, compassionate, and affected change in the world. I also love Thoreau, Emerson, and Wordsworth because I am inspired to live life to the fullest when reading such powerful, beautiful writing.

Personal motto

Live well, laugh often, love much.
Simplify, simplify, simplify!
Attitude is everything.
Take the high road.

Thoreau
