Why I choose to work at Nova

I chose to work at Nova because I believe that children must have strong foundational skills for success in all areas of life, and Nova provides and promotes all of these skills.  I love that Nova goes above and beyond the basic standards of education and does so while incorporating the virtues of truth, beauty and goodness into the curriculum. I am truly thankful to be part of such a nurturing environment with dedicated staff.

Hobbies/Interests

Baking (cookies are my passion), painting, running, reading (anything), traveling, trying new restaurants, going to the Farmers Market on Saturday mornings, walking aimlessly around Target, and spending time with my family and friends.

Family

I am lucky to have my entire family within 15 minutes of my house! I also have an adorable black cat named Scarlett, who is named after Scarlett O’Hara from Gone With The Wind.

Favorite author/thinker/historical figure (and why)

My favorite thinker is my stepdad Dave Melde, who passed away in February of 2009. I think of him as a philosopher of the 21st Century. He constantly challenged and questioned various aspects of life, including freedom, love, and morality. He taught me to live in the moment, cherish the people in your life, stand up for what you believe in, and to follow your dreams.

Personal motto

“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” –Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent” –Eleanor Roosevelt

“Success isn’t a result of spontaneous combustion. You must set yourself on fire.” –Arnold H. Glasow

“Cogito ergo sum (I think, therefore I am.)” -Descartes

“I live simply so others can simply live.”
